CDCTA June 18, 2025 Recognized Dressage Show at Great Meadow

This summer’s recognized show at Great Meadow was thankfully not as full as last year’s show and ran relatively smoothly.  Weather and food trucks seem to be recurring issues at this show, and this year was no exception!

One of the challenges with running shows at Great Meadow is that there are no ‘permanent show office’ facilities, and we have to set up a horse trailer for the show office.  Alice Johnson was kind enough to loan us her four-horse trailer, which was very clean, and we were setting it up for the show office the evening before when it started to rain and was leaking through the roof vents, which turned out not to have flaps to close them.  Fortunately, Tractor Supply is close, and a huge tarp was procured, and it took two golf carts, one broken arena rake, multiple bungees, Ildiko, Tara Jelenic, and me to cover the trailer roof.   Happily, the rain held off for the show, despite the forecast for rain.

Nailing down food trucks always seems to be a challenge.  Leading up to the show, I had been texting with the food truck owner to make sure they were still coming, posting the menu for riders and volunteers.  About an hour before they were due to arrive, I got a text saying the truck wouldn’t start, but they had lots of food ready. Thankfully, we simplified the menu and gave them the staff and volunteer lunch orders, which were delivered just as the lunch break started.

We had a great group of volunteers, many of whom are regulars at this show, which makes my job so much easier.  Shannon Bossung was once again the show secretary, making this the 10th year I have been running CDCTA recognized shows with Shannon at multiple venues.

Next year CDCTA will be hosting a schooling show the day before the recognized show at Great Meadow.
